The final three candidates for the position of president of the University of Nebraska have scheduled visits to the UNMC campus in the coming weeks.

“These candidates’ visits are an unparalleled opportunity to meet and hear from the people who are in consideration to run our university system,” said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. “I would encourage all members of the university community to come and hear what they have to say, to ask questions, and to embrace this chance to engage with these fine leaders.

“Please join me in meeting these people and welcoming them warmly to our campus, remembering always that we’re not just assessing them, but they’re assessing us,” he said. “We need to make them feel very warmly welcome, so that they understand what ‘Nebraska nice’ really means.”

The dates for the finalists visits are:

10:30 a.m., Dec. 10, Sorrell Center, Room 1005: Michael Martin, Ph.D., chancellor of the Colorado State University System.

2:30 p.m., Dec. 10, Sorrell Center, Room 1005: Hank Bounds, Ph.D., commissioner of higher education for the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.

10:30 a.m., Dec. 16, Sorrell Center, Room 1005: Sally Rockey, Ph.D., deputy director for extramural research at the National Institutes of Health.

George Ross, Ph.D., president of Central Michigan University, visited campus on Nov. 18.

UNMC’s James Linder, M.D., is serving as interim president for the university until a candidate is hired.

Detailed information on each of the finalists, including photos and curriculum vitae, can be found here.

Members of the UNMC community unable to attend the forums are invited to attend the events held on one of the other campuses or the board’s interview with the finalists. Recordings of the candidates’ UNL forums will be posted on the presidential search website after all four have visited. Full details on the finalists’ visits are available here.
