UNMC launches Title IX website

UNMC has launched a new Title IX website, designed to provide information about Title IX to the UNMC community.

UNMC Title IX Coordinator Carmen Sirizzotti said the website has a collection of resources designed to be a “one-stop shop” for securing information about Title IX and sex discrimination.

“The website will help us get information in the hands of students and employees more quickly,” Sirizzotti said. “This information, about sexual harassment, sexual violence, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, Title IX compliance, definitions, consent, filing complaints and victim resources available on and off campus, will be useful for anybody. But people also can contact me at any time.”

Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs receiving federal financial assistance. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities operated by recipients of federal financial assistance, including sexual harassment. Sexual harassment which includes acts of sexual violence, is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by Title IX.

The new site provides easy access to Title IX-related policies and procedures, including the UNMC sexual misconduct policy, student sexual misconduct procedures and employee sexual misconduct procedures.

The site also provides access to available resources, including resources by campus, national hotlines and other national websites and resources.

“The goal is that people know where to turn if they have Title IX concerns or questions,” Sirizzotti said. “The website will help more easily disseminate information — including how to contact the office if and when that is needed.”

UNMC employees and students may submit questions/comments to Sirizzotti by email or at 402-559-2710.
