Thirty-eight master’s students and one doctoral student recently presented their research findings during the UNMC College of Nursing Spring Research Colloquium for graduate nursing students.

There were 14 poster and three oral presentations at the March 29 event in the Durham Outpatient Center. The UNMC College of Nursing and Gamma Pi Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau sponsored the colloquium.

Students displayed their posters and talked about their projects with judges, faculty, students and others. Peggy Wilson, Ph.D., associate dean for graduate programs, said the students’ research represents at least a year to a year-and-a-half of work.

Nancy McMahon received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in an oral presentation for her research on “Infantile Colic: Mothers’ Experiences of Parenting an Irritable Infant.” Her advisers were Margaret Wilson, Ph.D., and Mary Megel, Ph.D.

Erinn Tilley received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in a poster presentation for her poster on “Effects of Resistance Training in Heart Failure Patients.” Bunny Pozehl, Ph.D., was her adviser.

There was a three-way tie for the Muriel Munchrath Gamma Pi Chapter-at-Large, Sigma Theta Tau Award for Excellence in a Nursing Research Presentation. This award was shared by the following students: Dorothea Clute for her poster “An Evaluation of Outcomes and Social Impacts of the Omaha Healthy Start Program” with Mary Cramer, Ph.D., as her adviser; Rhonda Olmsted and Rebekah Irwin for “Sleep Disordered Breathing in Heart Failure Patients” with Dr. Pozehl as their adviser; and Erinn Tilley for her poster on “Effects of Resistance Training in Heart Failure Patients” with Dr. Pozehl, as her adviser.

Dorothea Clute received the College of Nursing Alumni Association Rena E. Boyle Award for Excellence in Clinical Nursing Research for her poster “An Evaluation of Outcomes and Social Impacts of the Omaha Healthy Start Program.” Her adviser was Dr. Cramer.
