Saddle up for a fun-filled day at Joslyn Art Museum!

An employee day will be held at the museum on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. All UNMC, UNMC Physicians and The Nebraska Medical Center employees, students, and their families are invited to attend the free event.

Those attending can enjoy the museum’s latest display, “Legends of the West: The Foxley Collection,” featuring works from the collection of Bill Foxley, a cattleman, industry innovator and art collector who has been acquiring American Western art that spans a period of more than 125 years.

The collection includes paintings and some sculpture, and represents artists, styles and subject matter of the American West from around 1832 to 1940.

Participants will learn about life in the old west with activities planned for both the young and old.

The Cowboy Corral, a special area for young visitors, is located at the end of the “Legends of the West” exhibit. Children can learn to mount a saddle, braid leather, read and write their own cowboy poetry, make a horseshoe rubbing and more.

The hands-on activities continue in the Cooper Classroom where participants can learn how to create a poke sack and design their own brand and use it as an ink stamp.

Guided tours of the “Legends of the West” exhibit will also be available at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., or participants may choose to walk through with a printed guide.

Those planning to attend are asked to show their identification badge at any Joslyn admissions desk for free admission.

The Passport Partners program offers employees, students and their families free admission to the museum, as well as other programs throughout the year on the medical center campus and at the museum.

Free admission to the museum can be obtained any time throughout the year by presenting a valid identification badge.
