Spotlight on new faculty — Carey Christiansen Ford, M.D.

Name: Carey Ford, M.D.

Title: Assistant professor of family medicine

Speciality: Family medicine

Education: Dr. Ford received her medical degree at UNMC’s College of Medicine and undergraduate at Creighton University. Her residency training was in the department of family medicine at UNMC.

Teaching experience: Dr. Ford volunteered as a teaching assistant at UNMC. It was during her fourth year in medical school that she facilitated a group of first-year students in a year-long course of history taking and physical examination skills. This also involved teaching sessions as well as group sessions, and working with students one-on-one to ensure they understood materials presented.

Volunteer experience: For seven years prior to medical school, Dr. Ford was a “big sister” to a young girl through the Big Brother/Big Sister of the Midlands. This included being a positive adult influence and attending group and individual activities as a mentor and friend.

Current interest: Volunteer medical provider at the Sharing Clinic. Caring for her 1-year-old daughter, Ellie.

Clinic days and hours: Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic, third level of the Durham Outpatient Center, Mondays and Wednesdays all day; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
