Funeral services held for former UNMC perfusion tech Paul Pacaj

Funeral services were held in Omaha on Friday for former UNMC cardiovascular perfusion technologist Paul Pacaj.

Pacaj, who served as a cardiovascular perfusion technologist at UNMC from 1967 until 1991, died Aug. 13 following a stroke. He was 68.

Pacaj’s expertise with blood pumps used for liver transplants made him a key player in the development of UNMC’s world-renowned liver transplant program.

Pacaj worked at Mercy Heart Center in Sioux City, Iowa, after he left UNMC. He retired and returned to Omaha in 2001.

Pacaj was survived by his wife, Carma, daughter Kimberly Pacaj, sister Eugenia “NeNe” Pacaj, and brothers and sisters-in-law Eugene and Erna Pacaj and Walt and Sharon Pacaj.
