Think Green — Shredd Safe to handle campus recycling

picture disc.Shredd Safe — a division of Omaha Paper Stock – will handle all campus mixed paper recycling as of March 30.

Items that Shredd Safe will recycle include books, cardstock, envelopes, magazines, phone books, newspapers, carbonless paper, onionskin, shiny or coated paper and colored or white ledger paper. Shred Safe will shred all UNMC’s recycled paper they collect.

UNMC has processed all mixed paper on campus since April 1993 and all material has been handled in confidential manner that meets compliance requirements, such as HIPAA.

Shredd Safe will continue this practice as it collects, shreds and properly disposes of all mixed paper on campus, said Rick Boldt, UNMC recycling manager.

There is still no need for campus personnel to shred documents, Boldt said.

“Shredding documents on campus is unnecessary and actually a waste of work time,” Boldt said. “As long as employees use the proper mixed-paper receptacles, be it their desk-side recycling containers or the locked receptacles on campus, there is no reason to shred documents on campus.”
