Ernest and I go a long way back prior to working together here at the University we also worked together at Kellogg's Garden Market a grocery store. Ernest will be truly missed.

  2. Renee Fordyce-Boyer says:

Ernest had a wonderful outlook on life and people, and was always pleasant to work with. Inventory control in our department can be a challenge, and Ernest was very patient with my confusion. Such a shame to lose such a fine person.

Ernest was a super and giving friend and worked hard at being a great father and role model. He touched so many of our lives in so many ways, we will all miss him.

  4. Peter Pellerito says:

Ernest was an icon at the Center for Healthy Living and one of my personal heroes. He was always willing to share his time and expertise with others. He patented an exercise machine and opened his own fitness facility. His presence in our facility will be sorely missed.

  5. Brenda F. Martin, Section of Cardiology says:

I will miss Ernest dearly. I first met Ernest back in the '90's, when our departments were located in the old Administration Bldg. just off 42nd & Emile Street, which is the lot where the Sorrell Building resides currently. One day I was at the copy machine and Ernest, Earl and I was trying to figure out who was next in line to make copies and of course, they both were gentlemen and they let me go first. Every since then, we became good friends. Our departments ended up going to different locations, but Ernest would always stop by every now and then to check on me. He never lost touch. He was truly a good friend, a wonderful co-worker and a very good hearted person. He was always willing to take time out of his daily schedule to answer any questions you had for him. He loved his job very much! He had a great passion for staying fit and eating healthy. He would even fuss at me every now and then. He had a passion to help everyone stay fit, even if you where physically challeged. I remember helping Ernest type up some of his patent material for exercise equipment which he was developing to help those who were wheelchair bound. He had such an awesome plan in mind that I truly felt would be a great success one day. He was such a creative person. He would share with me how he wanted to open up his own exercise business one day, which he did and I was so very happy for him. He even stopped by the office to tell me about it. He was a good father and loved his family very much.

Ernest will be missed greatly and I will always carry the wonderful memories of Ernest in my heart!

  7. Walter Brooks says:

I worked in Public Affairs for 7 1/2 years and got to know Ernest well during many hallway conversations. He told me for years about his dream of starting his own fitness studio as a personal trainer. I am so glad to know that he did fulfill that dream and had a small studio off 72nd and Blondo Streets. He kept his "day job", but quietly worked diligently at night and on weekends as a trainer. He often even took a client during his lunch hour if they really needed the scheduling. He was an industrious, creative fitness expert. I never actually knew much about what he did for UNMC. We always talked fitness and community issues. And I became one of his clients for about four months before he became ill. I even put together a little two-page monthly newsletter for him as a "swap" for his training services. This was a good man, a striver and dreamer who had a whole other world outside of his 31 years at UNMC. And he was a masterful fitness instructor. We all loved him. God bless him. Rest in peace.

  9. Diane Mauk says:

I joined Ernest's gym "ELT Fitness/20 Minute Workout" in Sept 2007 and met with him 3-4 days a week for the next twelve months. He was an inspiration to me as my personal trainer. He was so creative and had so many good ideas; I have no doubt he would have had great success expanding his fitness training business over time as he planned had his life not been cut short. Each visit to the gym we would share many stories of the daily activities in our lives. He spoke often about his four children–Jessica ("J"), Alex, Dominique and Jordan. Our conversations and his constant involvement in their lives showed me what a wonderful father he was. He also taught me things that will help me live my life a little better and a little smarter. When I think of Ernest I remember a driven, responsible, caring and fun-loving guy. I miss him a lot and will never forget him or how he has made a difference in my life. I pray that God comforts all of his family and helps them get through this terribly sad time.

  10. Evelyn says:

Ernest and I have known each other for awhile. Our children played little league basketball and share a state basketball title. As team parents, we spent a lot of time fundraising and commuting our childrend back and forth to basketball tournaments. Ernest was a very loving a caring person. He was a family man who loved and supported his children. Ernest will truly be missed.
