Roxann Pierce
Roxann Pierce, education program coordinator in the College of Medicine’s education support office, died Sunday after a battle with a terminal illness. She was 49.

Pierce arrived at UNMC in 1989 and worked in several departments during her tenure. She started in the educational support office in 1998.

“She worked with quiet confidence and earned the respect of all of those with whom she worked,” said Gerald Moore, M.D., senior associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Medicine.

Funeral services for Pierce will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Church, 60th and Walnut streets.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Heafy-Heafy-Hoffman Mortuary, 7805 W. Center Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to Children’s Education Fund, St. Matthew Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.

  1. Kathryn Dybdall says:

Roxann was one of the most gentle, kind, and patient people I have known. Her dedication and love for her family and her job here at UNMC was unparalleled. Her absence leaves a big hole in the heart of the ESO.

  2. Sue Pope says:

Roxann was one of the most dedicated and dependable employees I have ever known. She was always willing to go above and beyond what was needed to get the job accomplished and did so in a professional manner. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and worked with her.

  3. Bonnie Povondra says:

Roxann was the smartest, hardest working, and bravest supervisor I have ever had. I will miss her every day!

  4. Hugh Stoddard, Ph.D. says:

Roxann's commitment to doing everything 'the right way' was legendary. In order to guarantee that nothing interfered with medical students' learning, Roxann devoted time and energy far beyond what could reasonably have been expected of her. . Roxann never sought glory for her efforts, so most people don't realize how much of an impact her work had on them. We in the ESO will miss Roxann immensely as our colleague and our friend.

  5. Nicki Simmons says:

Roxann was a great person. So easy to work with and always so pleasant. She was great at what she did. She will be truly missed.

  6. Karen Taylor says:

I am very saddened by the loss of a person who was so steady in her path, knew what to do and how to get it done. She was a bright spot in a busy world. I will miss her but I will remember her as a dedicated employee and mother.

  7. Kim Laursen says:

I knew Roxann since our boys were babies in the UNMC day care together. They grew up playing on YMCA sports teams and summer camps together. Roxann was as wonderful a mother and friend as she was a competent and conscientious employee. I didn't see Roxann as much the last few years since our boys went to separate high schools and colleges, so I didn’t even realize Roxann was ill. She never talked about herself, but was so proud of her family and would always ask about mine. I am heartbroken about the sad news and hope Roxann’s family will focus on the the happy times they shared. I'm so happy to have known such a strong, wonderful lady.

  8. Becky Weseman says:

Roxann was the hard working, quiet type. Always friendly and kind but never seeking praise for the work she did. I have known her for 20 years and will miss her smiling, warm face and conversation in the hallways of UNMC. I am deeply sadened in her passing and will keep her husband and children in my thoughts and prayers.

A note of thanks to the UNMC friends and co-workers from her husband. It is hard for me to express my gratitude in a few short words. I just hope this text shows some of my appreciation of what you have said and done in Roxann's memory. Roxann loved working at the UNMC. She believed in what the UNMC stood for. She was able to fill one of her passions in life by working at the UNMC. The second reason for Roxann's longevity and success was due to the people she met and worked with on a daily basis. A sincere heartfelt Thank-you to all who made Roxann happy at work and in life.
