Campus musicians invited to Tuesday musical society meeting

Can’t make the meeting …

If you have questions, or can’t make it to the meeting, but want to be involved, contact Marcie Richmond at mrichmond@unmc.edu or Alex Brugler at abrugler@unmc.edu; include your part or instrument please.

UNMC faculty, staff and students are invited to discuss the formation of a UNMC Musical Society during a meeting Tuesday at noon in the Sorrell Center, Room 2018.

The society will be an informal group that allows musicians — both vocalists and instrumentalists — to meet up to form small ensembles.

A large ensemble choir and orchestra also will be organized with semi-annual concerts to highlight our UNMC talent.

“Musical training has demonstrated benefits for other types of learning … and studies have shown that being involved in music can improve memory and attention levels,” said Marcie Richmond, one of the society’s organizers. “But the main purpose of this group is to have fun and relax — it gives us the opportunity to do something different from our typical day-to-day school and work activities and to meet friends on the UNMC campus with similar interests.”
