Grad student group sponsors free Avatar showing, asks for Haiti support

Seventy people will watch Avatar in 3D on the UNMC Graduate Student Association’s dime on Feb. 15.

But the GSA encourages those who attend the show to give some of the money they saved on the movie to the UNMC Haitian Relief and Outreach Fund.

The 8:15 p.m. showing at Midtown Cinema is for graduate students and guests. Organizers want movie goers to help UNMC in its quest to raise $100,000 for the fund, which supports medical center volunteer efforts and helps offset the personal costs to those who volunteer to help Haiti.

UNMC plans to send its second group of volunteers to Haiti next week.
