Facilities thanks employees for their energy-saving efforts

Close shades, blinds and curtains whenever possible to reduce solar heat gain.

Facilities Management and Planning thanks employees who have helped save energy during this particularly demanding heat wave.

“We are using about 10 to 15 percent less chilled water than we would have typically used on a day like Monday,” said Rick Kmiecik, director of strategic energy initiatives at UNMC. “This equates into savings for the university and shows that if everyone does their small part in saving energy and reducing chilled water usage on campus, it can make a tremendous difference.”

Kmiecik encourages employees to continue their efforts in closing blinds, shutting off unused equipment and turning off lights where they are not needed.

Facilities employees also have been making adjustments in building systems, he said. “We will continue to work hard to ensure that everyone remains as comfortable as possible.”
