Big Grove brings coffee shop to EDGE District

Big Grove Brewery is located on the north side of the Catalyst building in the EDGE District just across Saddle Creek Road from UNMC.

One of Iowa’s top craft taprooms is bringing beer, coffee, dining, atmosphere and event space to the EDGE District, just across Saddle Creek Road from UNMC.

Big Grove Brewery now is open for coffee shop service, including salads, pastries and more, at its first Nebraska location, on the north side of the Catalyst building. UNMC employees are invited to stop by as a meet-up space or remote-work option. Med center employees and others who work in health care can enjoy 50% off a 16-ounce beverage through May by showing their workplace ID badges.

Thereafter, the special will be available on “Medical Mondays,” said Keltie Imus, taproom marketing manager.

Big Grove’s current coffee shop hours are Mondays through Fridays, 6 a.m.-3 p.m.

Full service is expected to commence in June, as the surrounding road construction eases, Omaha store director Sam Voss said.

Big Grove, which has four Iowa locations, then will contend for the largest outdoor patio space in central Omaha, at more than 6,500 square feet with room for more than 300 patrons. And it will offer food and brews that have won prestigious honors at the World Beer Cup, U.S. Open Beer Championship and Great American Beer Festival. Taproom hours will be 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Big Grove’s menu will feature several locally sourced items, including organic microgreens from Barn Girls Farms, Fermented Felon kombucha, pastries from Sweet Magnolias Bakery and, soon, Fat Head Honey from Clarkson, Nebraska.

Giving back through community partnerships is a big part of Big Grove’s culture, its Omaha managers said. They said the company looks forward to becoming a part of the Omaha and EDGE District communities.

Big Grove has been “soft” open for coffee and more for a little over a month. And it has already seen some regulars who work in the building or nearby, or who live in the neighborhood, coffee shop manager Carmen Anderson said.

“We’re looking to slowly grow our footprint here,” Voss said.
