The Nebraska National Guard’s Bellevue-based 72nd Civil Support Team, in concert with local emergency management, first responder agencies and other National Guard Civil Support Teams, will conduct a full-scale exercise July 27-Aug. 1 at UNMC and other locations within the Omaha and Bellevue area. The Nebraska Public Health Laboratory is the host for this event on campus.

During the exercise, the public may see increased activity – including military “blue” vehicles and National Guardsmen wearing “all hazards” suits on Tuesday (July 29) and Thursday (July 31) at the following locations: Durham Railyard, SumTur Amphitheater, Charles Schwab Field, Nebraska Public Health Laboratory at UNMC, the Nebraska National Guard’s North Omaha Readiness Center and Offutt Air Force Base.

On the UNMC Omaha campus, the mock drill, called “Operation Torrent Rising,” will take place on the southeast side of Annex 22 at 601 S. Saddle Creek Road. A small portion of Lot 17 also will be blocked off for the exercise. In addition to “blue” vehicles, fire trucks also may be deployed to the site. The scenario-driven event is not open to the public; individuals should not attempt to enter the space during the exercise.
