Orientation events scheduled for incoming students

Students walking at New Student Orientation

As the new academic year begins, incoming UNMC students from every college, campus and program will be welcomed with a variety of orientation activities. While the UNMC colleges and programs organize their own orientation events for the fall, the UNMC Division of Student Success hosts a UNMC-wide New Student Orientation that focuses on resources and skills to support student success.

The month of August will feature these activities:

New Student Orientation
Today (Aug. 20), 9-11:30 a.m.

Facilitated by the UNMC Office of Academic Success, new student orientation takes place simultaneously for all incoming UNMC students. Omaha and Kearney will have in-person events while other campuses will attend orientation virtually.

Campus leaders and expert panelists will welcome students and provide an engaging experience focused on setting students up for success into, throughout and beyond their educational journey at UNMC. This event also provides opportunities to meet and learn from UNMC Peer Success Leaders.

At the end of orientation, Omaha campus students can take a short campus tour. New Student Orientation facilitators will provide details. The Center for Healthy Living will be open for tours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Interprofessional Education Orientation Event
Today (Aug. 20), 1-4 p.m.

Students will attend a panel of health professions to learn about the importance of interprofessional teamwork and communication, and they will participate in a series of exercises that illustrate challenges to successful cooperation among team members in modern health care.

McGoogan Health Sciences Library Open House
Tuesday, Aug. 26, Noon-2 p.m.

Discover the services and resources available to students at McGoogan Health Sciences Library. Library faculty and staff, along with building and department partners, will be stationed throughout the library sharing information, handing out giveaways and providing free snacks. Discover how the library can be a place to de-stress, relax and unwind thanks to reflection rooms, napping pods, leisure reading and more. This is an in-person event for the Omaha campus only.

#WeAreUNMC BBQ and Student Involvement Fair
Wednesday, Aug. 27, 3:30-6 p.m.

On the Omaha campus, a traditional cookout dinner with hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers, with sides and drink, will be served on the ice rink to anyone with a meal ticket. This event is open to UNMC students, faculty and staff. The event provides a fun atmosphere with music and yard games. (Food and giveaways are while supplies last.)

Students are encouraged to visit the Student Involvement Fair tables inside the Center for Healthy Living. UNMC offers more than 100 registered student organizations. Students can connect with organization leaders and sign up for activities.
