Volunteers needed for #WeAreUNMC BBQ, involvement fair

The 2025 #WeAreUNMC BBQ and Student Involvement Fair is coming up next Wednesday – and volunteers are needed throughout the event.

This year’s combined event is scheduled for Aug. 27 from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

The BBQ will be held on the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza, and the Student Involvement Fair will be held on the Center for Healthy Living activities courts. Faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend.

Volunteers are needed for:

• Set up throughout the event spaces from 10-11:30 a.m.
• Staffing the check-in table for food ticketing from 3:30-4:45 p.m. and 4:45-6 p.m.
• Handing out the limited edition giveaway from 3:30-4:45 p.m. and 4:45-6 p.m.
• Involvement fair check in from 3:30-4:45 p.m. and 4:45-6 p.m.
• Staffing the question island table from 3:30-4:45 p.m. and 4:45-6 p.m. at the Center for Healthy Living activities courts.
• Tear down at both event spaces from 6-7:30 p.m.

The #WeAreUNMC BBQ will feature a traditional cookout dinner with hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers, along with sides and drink, to anyone with a meal ticket. The event also offers giveaways, music and yard games. (Food and giveaways are while supplies last.)

The Student Involvement Fair includes more than 100 registered student organizations, giving students a chance to connect with organization leaders and sign up for activities.

The event is hosted by UNMC Campus Engagement and the Student Life Involvement and Development Office, sponsored in part by Metro Credit Union, GreenSlate Management and Bergman Incentives in collaboration with the UNMC Student Senate, Center for Healthy Living, UNMC Department of Strategic Communications, the UNMC Office of Sustainability and the UNMC Bookstore.

In the case of poor weather, the BBQ will be held inside the Center for Healthy Living.
