CRNA spotlight: Kayleigh Lewandowski

Kayleigh Lewandowski, DNAP

Kayleigh Lewandowski is a new certified nurse anesthetist with the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.

Name: Kayleigh Lewandowski

Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska

How I became interested in anesthesiology: I was a cardiac ICU nurse for several years at Children’s Nebraska, and we did a lot of bedside procedures with anesthesia. I really enjoyed working with the anesthesiologists and learning from them, and I wanted to advance my education so I could do what they do.

Education:

  • Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice, Bryan College of Health Sciences
  • BSN, University of Nebraska Medical Center
  • BS in Microbiology, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Professional Organization: American Academy of Nurse Anesthesia

How I fell in love with anesthesiology: I love that anesthesia is not a cookbook field. Every single case and every single patient is different. I am never bored, and I am constantly learning new skills, techniques and information to better take care of patients.

Three things people might not know about me:

  • I went to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
  • I have three pet axolotls, which are a type of salamander that remain aquatic dwellers for their entire lives. Their names are Mac, Frank and Charlie.
  • I come from a family of six redheads.
