Nominations open for UNMC’s J.G. Elliott Award

UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, gives the J.G. Elliott Award to Byron Barksdale, MD, at UNMC's May 2025 commencement in recognition of his decades of service to his fellow Nebraskans in the areas of health care, outreach and public health.

UNMC is accepting nominations for the J.G. Elliott Award – given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the State of Nebraska in the field of medicine or health services.

The annual award will be given at UNMC’s May 2026 commencement.

The award honors the late John (Jack) G. Elliott, who served on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents for 20 years until his death in 1974. It was designed to uphold one of Elliott’s major concerns – that University of Nebraska programs have an impact throughout the state, as reflected in the actions and performance of the award recipient.

The nominee must reside in Nebraska; historically, preference has been given to nominees who are not active UNMC faculty or staff.

Nominations and support material, including a resume/curriculum vitae, must be completed and returned to the UNMC Office of Vice Chancellor for External Relations no later than Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Submissions can be sent via email to Kimberly Eriksen at this link. The mailing address for nominations is Christopher Kratochvil, MD, Vice Chancellor for External Relations, University of Nebraska Medical Center, 986630 Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE 68198-6630.
