Sen. Dorn meets with UNMC Student Delegates

Nebraska State Sen. Myron Dorn answers a question during a recent UNMC Student Delegates meeting as Leah Heyen and Del Dsouza, student delegate co-chairs, look on.

The UNMC Student Delegates recently hosted Nebraska State Sen. Myron Dorn for an educational session on rural health care, legislative policy and student engagement issues.

On Nov. 12, Sen. Dorn met with student delegates for a one-hour meeting, followed by a tour of the Davis Global Center with Leah Heyen, an M4 and co-chair of the UNMC Student Delegates, and Jeff Kratz, UNMC’s director of government relations and a faculty adviser for the group.

Sen. Dorn, first elected to the Unicameral in 2018, represents District 30, which includes Gage and parts of Lancaster Counties, and serves on the appropriations, reference, building maintenance, executive board and legislative oversight committees.

In response to student questions, Sen. Dorn shared stories about his longtime work as an EMT on the Adams Rescue Squad, past work on agricultural cooperative boards and how his work on the Gage County Board led him toward the Nebraska Legislature. He also noted the Legislature’s 60-day session will begin Jan. 7, 2026, and run through early April.

The UNMC Student Delegates includes students from all UNMC colleges who are interested in governmental policy and advocacy.
