UNMC College of Public Health to host World Health Day

The UNMC College of Public Health will mark World Health Day on Monday, April 20, offering an opportunity for the UNMC community to join the conversation on global health.

The World Health Day events are hosted by the UNMC College of Public Health’s Center for Global Health and Development, in partnership with the UNMC Global Center for Health Security and The ONE Campaign, a global organization advocating for economic and health opportunities in Africa.

Scheduled presentations are:

  • 9-10 a.m. via Zoom: “From Data to Decision: Strengthening Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance in Uganda,” by Uzo Chukwuma. Chukwuma is a doctor of public health student in epidemiology at UNMC. She serves as chief of infectious diseases and national immunization program manager at the federal Indian Health Service.
  • 11 a.m.-noon in person at the Mauer Center for Public Health, Room 3013, and via Zoom: “Preeclampsia – A Disease to Tackle Locally and Globally,” by Sarosh Rana, MD. Dr. Rana is chair of the UNMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Chris J. and Marie A. Olson Endowed Professor in the department. Lunch will be served at noon.
  • Noon-1 p.m. in person at the Sorrell Center, Room 2010, and via Zoom: Student advocacy workshop by Misty Uribe. Uribe is regional organizing manager for The ONE Campaign. Lunch will be served at noon.
  • 2-3 p.m. via Zoom: “Global Health Engagement and Current Events,” by Frieda Arenos. Arenos is director of U.S. government relations for The ONE Campaign.
