Timothy Dillinger is a resident physician at the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.
Name: Timothy James Dillinger
Hometown: Missouri Valley, Iowa
How I became interested in medicine: Growing up, I never considered medicine as a career. After I finished my business degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, I was not sure where I wanted to take my career. On a whim, I began working as a medical scribe in an emergency department in St. Louis, Missouri. Through this experience (and others), I felt called to strive to relieve the suffering of others. And the rest is history.
Education:
- Medical School: University of Missouri Columbia
Medical interests: Knowing I want to pursue a career in academic anesthesiology, I will likely pursue fellowship training. I’m currently undecided, but I think I’m interested in cardiothoracic or pain medicine.
Professional Memberships:
- American Society of Anesthesiologists
How I fell in love with anesthesiology: I love anesthesiology because it’s ICU-level care in the operating room. We get to care for patients in their most vulnerable, and likely most dangerous, time of their life. It’s an honor to serve patients during this.
Why UNMC? UNMC provides exceptional training in a terrific city. Growing up within 30 minutes of Omaha, I was very familiar with UNMC, as many of my family members received care here. During my “away” rotation, I was impressed by the complex surgeries performed at UNMC. I was also impressed by the support that residents receive, especially as a husband and father of my 20-month old daughter.
Three things people may not know about me:
- I enjoy running and have (slowly) run two half-marathons.
- I’ve listened to every nominated Grammy Album of the Year since 2005.
- I love hanging out with my wife and daughter.
