How I became interested in medicine: I started as an organic chemist and was very dedicated to my research. One of our goals was to learn more about proteins and their activity in living organisms. As I started to learn more about pharmaceuticals and biochemistry, I grew interested in medicine. I wanted to be more involved with directly caring for patients and switched my career path to pursue medical school.

How I fell in love with anesthesiology:
Anesthesiology is the field of medicine where all my interests intersect. I enjoy the unique blend of pharmacology and physiology, and I am excited to have the opportunity to care for patients from across the lifespan, including childbirth, childhood, and adulthood. I realized that I wanted to be an anesthesiologist when I found myself looking forward to mastering the skills that I will need to care for patients in the perioperative setting.
Why UNMC? Being from Wyoming, I value the autonomy that is required of physicians who choose to practice in rural environments. At UNMC, I know that I will be challenged early with a robust and highly varied caseload that will prepare me for practice after residency. I value the strong supportive and friendly culture that I found here, and I hope to contribute as an energetic and curious learner.
Three things people may not know about me:
- I grew up in the Rocky Mountains and enjoy fly fishing, especially dry fly.
- I enjoy rock climbing, specifically indoor bouldering.
- I speak Portuguese and enjoy cooking and eating Brazilian cuisine.
