Faculty, staff and students are invited to gather at 3:30 p.m. today on the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza as UNMC Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, and a special guest kick off the annual #WeAreUNMC BBQ and student involvement fair. Enjoy free food (with meal ticket), giveaways, music and backyard games from 3:30 to 6 p.m. All are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and refillable water bottles.
The BBQ is located on the Ruth & Bill Scott Student Plaza and features a traditional cookout dinner with hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers, along with sides and drink. The check-in table is next to the ice rink, and a badge swipe is required to receive a meal ticket. Food is available while supplies last.
The UNMC Office of Sustainability aims to make the BBQ a zero-waste event by matching last year’s achievement of diverting 91% of the waste away from landfills.
The Student Involvement Fair is inside the Center for Healthy Living on the lower-level activity courts. The fair includes over 90 registered student organizations and campus groups, offering students a chance to connect with organization leaders and sign up for activities.
While the fair is a student event, employees can check-in to receive a limited-edition gift from UNMC Campus Engagement at table 20. Students are eligible for the same gift from the Student Life Involvement and Development Office (SLIDO) at table 4. All giveaways are while supplies last.
Students, faculty and staff also are invited to stop by the new UNMC Residences to grab a piece of cake, take a tour, and check out the common spaces that are available for use. Students are eligible to enter a drawing for a free student commuter parking pass.
Today’s event is hosted by SLIDO, sponsored in part by UNMC Campus Engagement and Metro Credit Union in collaboration with the Student Senate, Center for Healthy Living, Department of Strategic Communications, the UNMC Office of Sustainability, and the UNMC Bookstore.
