Starting Sept. 1, 42nd Street south of Farnam Street to Dewey Avenue will be closed.
The closure is necessary for utility work. However, the timing of this work overlaps with the current closure of 42nd Street from Dewey Avenue to Emile Street, which is expected to reopen by Nov. 1. After Nov. 1, work will continue in front of Clarkson Tower along 42nd Street, well into 2027.
Alternate routes to Clarkson Tower:
- From Dodge Street heading west, no left turn allowed. Veer right to reach 42nd Street, head south and follow detour signs
- From Dodge Street eastbound, turn south on 40th Street and then go west on Dewey Avenue.
- From Leavenworth or Jones streets, go north on 38th Ave. and then west on Dewey Avenue.
Safety measures
During this work, multiple electronic messaging boards and detour signage will be placed at various points along main north and south streets, and the intersection of 38th Avenue and Jones Street will temporarily convert to a four-way stop for safety precautions. Please take extra precautions when driving into or exiting Lot 5 along Dewey Avenue.
Patients will be notified of the impact of travel through One Chart as well as during scheduling calls, so they can allot appropriate travel time.
The intersection of 42nd and Farnam streets will remain open, and there will not be an impact to Emergency Department traffic or routing.
