UNMC faculty and staff in Omaha will have the opportunity to receive flu shots at several upcoming on-site vaccination clinics provided by Kohll’s Rx and coordinated by UNMC Human Resources. The times and dates of the clinics will be announced in later UNMC Today communication.
These clinics will be separate from the Nebraska Medicine drop-in clinics, which will be available this year to Nebraska Medicine employees and dually employed UNMC physicians, residents and fellows.
UNMC employees who wish to receive a flu vaccination at one of the Kohll’s campus vaccination clinics will need to register online and upload their insurance information. The University of Nebraska plan administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield provides the flu shot benefit, provided that individuals have completed their health risk assessment. Individuals covered by other insurance should check their benefits, although many major health insurance plans cover the flu shot at little or no cost.
“I cannot emphasize enough the importance of receiving a flu vaccination, not only to protect oneself, but also to protect community members who could have extremely bad outcomes, if they are infected with the flu virus,” said H. Dele Davies, MD, UNMC chancellor.
UNMC faculty, staff and students at Kearney, Lincoln, Norfolk and Scottsbluff are encouraged to follow their typical path for getting their flu shots, whether that be from a local pharmacy, their doctor’s office or a local drop-in vaccination clinic.
“Again, it’s important that we do this for our own health and for those around us,” Dr. Davies said.
As in previous years, all faculty, staff and students are asked to record their vaccination status in the Health Tracking System.
Flu shots for Omaha students
The Operation Immunization Clinic – organized through the UNMC College of Pharmacy — will offer free flu shots to UNMC Omaha students Sept. 15-18 and Sept. 22-25. The clinic will be held in the UNMC Center for Drug Discovery and Lozier Center for Pharmacy, with morning and afternoon appointments available. The Operation Immunization clinics are not open to UNMC faculty and staff.
UNMC Omaha students must schedule an appointment online and bring their UNMC ID badge to receive a flu shot.
Similar flu-shot clinics for students are being scheduled in Kearney and at the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln. (Flu shots also will be made available to dentistry faculty and staff.) Students in all communities are encouraged to receive their flu shot either from a dedicated flu-shot clinic or from a local pharmacy or healthcare provider.
