Registration is open for community members to attend “A Conversation with Dr. Kemi Doll: Fireside Chat & Book Signing” on Friday, Nov. 20, at the Scott Conference Center in Omaha.
Hosted by the National Cancer Institute-designated Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, a partnership between UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, the event will feature nationally recognized physician, surgeon, researcher, advocate and author Kemi Doll, MD. This free community event is open to all, and advance registration is required. Doors open at 10:45 a.m., and the event concludes at 1:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy a buffet lunch.
During the event, Dr. Doll will discuss themes from her recently published book, “A Terrible Strength: The Hidden Crisis of the Black Womb & Our Survival Guide to Healing.” The book weaves science, story, and strategy to expose how Black women’s womb suffering is silenced and dismissed—and how collective healing and agency can change everything.
Dr. Doll is a professor, a double board-certified gynecologic oncologist and OB/GYN and a health equity scientist at the University of Washington Schools of Medicine and Public Health. A nationally recognized leader in advancing research on racial disparities in endometrial (womb) cancer, her groundbreaking work has been featured in The New England Journal of Medicine, The JAMA Network, The New York Times, NPR, BET and Good Morning America.
“This event provides an opportunity for meaningful dialogue about health, resilience, leadership and the experiences of women and families in our communities,” said Joann Sweasy, PhD, director of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. “We’re honored to welcome Dr. Doll to Omaha and create space for learning, reflection and connection.”
Community leaders Candias “Candi” Jones, CEO of Girls Inc. of Omaha and founder of Coaching with Candi, and Malloree Ellis, first lady of Salem Baptist Church and program director for the Learning Community Center of North Omaha, will offer opening remarks and closing reflections. Shanda Ross, strategic partnership consultant at Nebraska Medicine, will serve as moderator.
Community members are encouraged to register by Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026. See this link for event information and registration.
