Three members of the College of Nursing community were honored at the recent Midwest Nursing Research Society annual meeting:

Marlene Cohen, Ph.D., was one of three members of the College of Nursing community who were honored at the recent Midwest Nursing Research Society annual meeting. The others honored were Michele Balas, Ph.D., and Jackie Tewes.
  • Marlene Cohen, Ph.D., associate dean for research and Kenneth E. Morehead Endowed Chair in Nursing, received the 2010 MNRS Distinguished Scientist Recognition Award for her research into patients’ and families’ experience of serious illness, particularly cancer;
  • Michele Balas, Ph.D., assistant professor in the department of community based health, received a MNRS New Investigator of the Year award for her investigations into geriatrics patients in critical care settings; and
  • Jackie Tewes, a recent graduate of the college, received a second place award for student posters.

Carol Toris, Ph.D., professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences, has been elected as the trustee of the section of physiology and pharmacology at Association for Research and Vision in Opthalmology.
