Yvette Holly, an 18-year veteran of the University of Nebraska Medical
Center, was recently named executive director of UNMC Information Technology
Services. Holly succeeds Ed Rejda who served as executive director of ITS
from 1981 until 1999. Upon Rejda’s retirement in April, Holly served as
interim executive director of ITS and continued her role as director of
computing services/telecommunications.
“I am thrilled Yvette accepted the position,” said UNMC Chancellor Harold
M. Maurer, M.D. “She is a true leader on campus and has done an excellent
job as interim director. Her leadership will help position the medical
center to do great things. It is commendable that she worked her way up
to this position after originally starting at a junior position in the
field at UNMC.”
Holly was selected after a national search chaired by Rod Markin, M.D.,
professor and vice chairman of pathology and microbiology and president
of University Medical Associates.
“Yvette was the clear choice for this position. I appreciate the search
committee’s hard work and dedication,” said Don Leuenberger, UNMC vice
chancellor of business and finance. “Yvette continuously shows her commitment
to helping UNMC maintain its vision. I am confident she will enable UNMC
to meet the challenges of tomorrow and beyond.”
Holly, who has played a key role in implementing UNMC’s campus strategic
plan, said she looks forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.
“An exciting future awaits UNMC as it moves toward its vision of becoming
a world class academic health sciences center,” she said. “I welcome the
opportunity to play a key role in the leadership and direction of information
technology services in support of UNMC’s vision.”
Holly oversees a staff of more than 130 employees and is responsible
for the provision of data, voice and video services to the Medical Center’s
faculty, staff and students.
“I look forward to partnering with UNMC’s leadership team, faculty and
staff in support of strategic initiatives in research, education and patient
care,” Holly said.
Her responsibilities include overseeing delivery of information technology
support services to NHS. Holly earned her bachelors degree in computer
science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1981.
She then joined UNMC as a systems analyst. She was promoted to manager
of administrative computing in 1984. In 1989, she was promoted to assistant
director of computing services/telecommunications, a position she held
until 1997 when she was named director of the department.
A search for director of computing services/telecommunications will
follow Holly’s appointment to executive director of ITS.
UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state.
Through its commitment to research, education, outreach and patient care,
UNMC has established itself as one of the country’s leading centers for
cancer research and treatment, solid organ transplantation and arthritis.
During the past year, nearly $31 million in research grants and contracts
were awarded to UNMC scientists, and UNMCs funding from the National Institutes
of Health increased by 28 percent, going from $16.2 million to $20.7 million.
UNMCs educational programs are responsible for training more health professionals
practicing in Nebraska than any other institution.
