Nursing speaker to explore resilience in education

The UNMC College of Nursing Northern Division will host a presentation on “Resilience in Education: Assessment and Skill Development for Success,” from noon to 3:45 p.m. Feb. 9 at the UNMC College of Nursing-Northern Division, Room 139.

The presentation, by Beverly Patchell, Ph.D., assistant professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Utah, will be video broadcast to the following locations, as well:

  • Omaha division, CNS Room 4012O.
  • Lincoln division, Room 307
  • Kearney division, HSEC Room 100
  • Western division, Room 130D.

Dr. Patchell will speak about best-practice strategies to increase resilience factors in students in order to promote academic success.

The presentation’s objectives include:

  • Describe the factor of resilience important to student success;
  • Identify challenges to successful use of resilience factors in disadvantaged students; and
  • Use strategies based on assessed levels of resilience in students to create effective processes for improved skill development.

The presentation will be divided into three sessions:

  • Noon to 12:45 p.m.: Resilience: Factors for Student Success
  • 1 to 2 p.m.: Resilience: Challenges Students Face
  • 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Resilience: Strategies to Optimize Skill Development
  • 3:30 to 3:45 p.m.: Q&A and Evaluations

The Resilience Workshop is being funded by a Nursing Workforce Diversity grant through the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
