The UNMC College of Medicine was well represented in the recent announcements of the UNMC Research Awards and the UNMC Impact in Education Awards.

Andre Kalil, MD, professor in the UNMC Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Internal Medicine, has been named the 16th UNMC Scientist Laureate. Justin Mott, MD, PhD, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, has been named the Varner Educator Laureate for 2021-22 as part of the UNMC Impact in Educator Awards. He will be honored, along with other educators, at a virtual event on March 3. In addition to Dr. Mott, three more educators from the college will be honored. See more information.

UNMC College of Medicine Dean Bradley Britigan, MD, extended his congratulations to Drs. Kalil and Mott, as well as the other award recipients.

"Education and research are two of the pillars of our mission at UNMC," Dr. Britigan said. "As a college, we can take pride in the efforts of our researchers and educators over the past year, especially in the face of the pandemic. As our educators, researchers, clinicians and students continue to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, we can take a moment to celebrate our college and our colleagues who have been recognized by UNMC for their exceptional efforts."
