Silent display marks lives lost to suicide

To mark Suicide Prevention Month, a collection of shoes was placed in a display on campus to depict the number of Nebraskans who lost their lives to suicide.

The display took place Sept. 9 in front of the Healing Hands sculpture near Clarkson Tower. People also wrote messages of hope and remembrance in sidewalk chalk around the display.

Howard Liu, MD, chair of the UNMC Department of Psychiatry, marked the remembrance on Twitter.

I want to thank Celeste Akers, Jen Sparrock, Kira Gee and Dom Gliko for putting up this powerful display! We truly need the community to lean in to address mental health workforce and access.
