To the faculty, staff and students of UNMC:
This weekend’s mass shooting at a Lunar New Year’s celebration at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California, left people across the nation shocked and grieving.
Although the motivation for the shooting, which left 11 dead and nine wounded as of this writing, is unclear at this time, we wish to express our sorrow at this tragedy and our support for members of the UNMC community, including our Asian American and Pacific Islander faculty, staff and students, in the wake of this event.
For those who are struggling in the aftermath of this weekend’s events, please remember that UNMC offers support through wellness resources for every segment of the campus community: faculty/staff and house officers and students. The medical center also has an AAPI Student Association and an AAPI Employee Resource Group for those who wish to reach out.
UNMC stands with the AAPI community and in support of the AAPI members of the medical center community.
