Cultural competence: why now and why me?!

Imagine this — a patient comes to the clinic who does not understand our easy to comprehend health care system. He has never been in a true clinic – having come from an area upset by war and civil unrest for decades. He barely speaks English or, if he does, he does not speak medicalese. Here, Valda Ford shares her thoughts on cultural competence.
