Trevino was one of more than 40 middle and high school students from the Panhandle who competed in the second annual Nebraska Panhandle Area Health Education Center (NP-AHEC) and Nebraska Junior Academy of Science (NJAS) Combined Regional Science Fair in Scottsbluff on March 1. One of the organizers, Wendy Wells, UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division instructor and education coordinator of the NP-AHEC, said science projects were judged on scientific method, communication skills and personal growth. Participants competed to earn a trip to Lincoln in April for the State NJAS competition and, for eighth graders only, a trip to UNMC in June for the Health/Science Meet. The event is sponsored by the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures, ESU #13, NP-AHEC and the UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division.
