Bricks fall on Computing Services building

Jennifer Audi, M.D., is among the many new faculty members on the UNMC campus. Dr. Audi is an assistant professor with the section of emergency medicine in the department of surgery. She also is assistant medical director for The Nebraska Regional Poison Center.

2006 Student Senate officers elected
Dan Connealy of Chadron, a third-year medical student, will serve as the 2006 UNMC Student Senate president and student regent. Michael Furasek of Lincoln, also a third-year medical student, will serve as vice president. The pair will take office in January.

Regents approve Center for Advanced Surgical Technology
The University of Nebraska is poised to be a leader in the evolution of surgical practice. On Friday, it made another leap forward when the Board of Regents approved establishment of the University of Nebraska Center for Advanced Surgical Technology at UNMC.

Restore Omaha’s first event big success
Restore Omaha attracted 453 lovers of older properties to the newly renovated Mutual of Omaha Dome on Nov. 5. They heard from two keynote speakers and 20 breakout session speakers about how to preserve and restore their home or business.

Night of a Thousand Stars set for Dec. 3
The 13th annual “Night of a Thousand Stars” will illuminate Omaha on Saturday, Dec. 3. The UNMC pre-party reception with hors d’oeuvres will be at the Omaha Woman’s Club, 518 S. 38th St., beginning at 7 p.m.

Professorships commemorate orthopaedic surgeons
The late Drs. L. Thomas Hood and Herman Frank Johnson are names that run deep through Nebraska’s orthopaedic heritage. Marjorie Hood, wife of Dr. Hood and daughter of Dr. Johnson, wanted to ensure that they were remembered for their remarkable contributions to the field of orthopaedics, while also supporting the mission of the UNMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, which they helped build. Students organize food drive, compete with Creighton
In a friendly competition, Omaha’s two academic health science centers are racing to gain the most pounds in a pre-Thanksgiving food drive to benefit the Omaha Food Bank. Donations of food and household goods are being accepted on the UNMC campus through Thursday, Nov. 17.
