Brown, Stevens receive 2003 SAHP awards

The UNMC School of Allied Health Professions held its 2003 Student and Faculty Awards Ceremony and 16th Annual Student Research Forum last month. The annual year in review was highlighted by the announcement that Darwin Brown, instructor in Physician Assistant Program, received the 2003 Teacher of the Year Award, and Adam Stevens, coordinator of CT/MRI education in the radiation science technology division, received the 2003 Outstanding Service to the Allied Health Professions Award.

UMA Baker Place Clinic open house draws nearly 1,000 visitors

Although the UMA Health Clinic at Baker Place, 5050 Ames Ave., has been a fixture in the neighborhood for years, there were many people living in the surrounding area who, until recently, didn’t know about its services or the work of the adjacent UNMC-sponsored North Omaha Community Care Council (NOCCC). This lack of awareness was challenged in a big way on May 31, when almost 1,000 people participated in an open house at the clinic and NOCCC offices.

UNL educator on gay and lesbian issues to speak on campus June 24

NHS/UNMC faculty, students and staff are invited to a special presentation, titled “Rainbow at UNMC: Lessons in Gay and Lesbian Issues.” The one-hour program will begin at noon on Tuesday, June 24, at the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.
Guest speaker will be D. Moritz, assistant director for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Programs and Services at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

UNMC third-quarter research grants total $12 million

UNMC received $12 million in federal research grants during the third quarter of fiscal year 2002-03. The third quarter includes the months of January, February and March. Total research funding for the year is now $38.8 million – a 9 percent increase over last year’s record-breaking $35.7 million after three quarters.
