Philanthropic giant, Charles Durham, transformed UNMC
Charles “Chuck” Durham wanted his legacy to be biomedical research, but the impact and contributions of this hands-on civic leader who transformed UNMC, goes far beyond that wish.
On Monday, the UNMC community remembered Durham, who died Saturday at age 90, for his visionary leadership, philanthropic spirit and the indelible impact, he and his late wife, Margre, had on UNMC, where their names are synonymous with research excellence.

Longtime UNMC supporter, Charles Durham, dies
Charles W. “Chuck” Durham, one of UNMC’s strongest supporters and most generous donors, died Saturday. He was 90. “Chuck Durham was literally a giant, not only in Nebraska, but beyond,” said UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday.

UNMC enters into partnership with Japanese scientists
While growing up in Russia, UNMC’s Alexander “Sasha” Kabanov, Ph.D., said he acquired an extreme admiration for the work of Japanese researchers. His admiration, Dr. Kabanov said, was refined by his scientist father’s consistent praise and attention to the scientific contributions of Japanese scientists.
