Avian flu education: Flu shots won’t prevent bird flu — but still important
Current vaccines used to prevent seasonal influenza would not protect someone from catching avian influenza. But that’s not to say a seasonal flu vaccine would have no purpose should a worldwide bird flu pandemic break out as some fear may happen, said Mark Rupp, M.D., professor of infectious diseases at UNMC.

Pfizer grant to fund March diabetes conference at UNO
Pfizer pharmaceuticals recently awarded the UNMC Center for Continuing Education and the Section of Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism a grant for $30,000. These educational grant funds will allow UNMC to offer an accredited continuing education conference on management of diabetes and complications on March 30 at the W.H. Thompson Alumni Center on the UNO campus.
