UNMC’s Rapid Autopsy Program featured in scientific journal
UNMC’s Rapid Autopsy Program (RAP) received major acclaim this month when the Journal of Neuroimmunology carried two articles written by the UNMC RAP team. One article served as a tutorial for other institutions on what it takes to develop a RAP. The other article detailed the changes that occur in microglial brain cell function with HIV-1-associated dementia.

University accreditation process kicks off
When John Benson, M.D., reads the criteria on which UNMC’s accreditation application will be judged, he can’t help but note the similarities to UNMC’s strategic plan. Over the next 1 1/2 years, the campus will undergo a self-evaluation in hopes of receiving a full, 10-year re-accreditation.

Heart Walk surpasses 2005 goal
More than 2,200 people turned out for the 10th annual Omaha-Metro American Heart Walk on May 7 and raised more than $415,000, surpassing the 2005 goal of $375,000. This is the first year the local goal has been reach.

Dr. Reddish receives Preceptor of the Year Award

Dr. Reddish transferred that knowledge into practice – during his first year as a preceptor – to earn the 2005 Preceptor of the Year Award.

UNMC research may help fight prostate cancer
Researchers at UNMC have reported the findings of a new study that sheds light on a mechanism involved in the pathological destruction of bone caused by metastatic prostate cancer. The findings provide critical insight into the process of prostate cancer-driven bone destruction and identify a treatment that may interrupt bone disease caused by the spread of prostate cancer. The research is published in the cover story in the May issue of Cancer Cell, a leading scientific journal.
