John Bradfield, D.V.M., PhD

Director of Comparative Medicine BradfieldDr. John Bradfield is a native of the Pueblo, CO, area. He serves as the director of Comparative Medicine and has been the attending veterinarian at UNMC since 2017.

He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ross University in Woodbridge, New Jersey, his post graduate Masters of Science in Laboratory Animal Medicine from the University of Missouri at Columbia, and his PhD in Pathology from East Carolina University-Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC. His research interests center around comparative pathology, the study of animal and human disease and how they interrelate.  Specific areas of previous research include laboratory animal medicine and pathology, wound healing, and vascular and platelet biology.

Dr. Bradfield is board certified in the specialty of laboratory animal medicine as a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. 

Comparative Medicine provides maintenance, procurement and quality assurance evaluation of research animals; surgical, radiological and diagnostic services; consultative services for animal welfare and humane use; research protocol review, veterinary public health services, and consultation regarding appropriate animal model and project design.
