Artists to perform for cancer center patients

Cast members from the “Physicians Mutual Omaha Symphony Christmas Celebration,” including Broadway performers Richard Todd Adams, Jeff Kready, Siri Howard, and Charlotte Maltby, will perform for patients of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at noon today in the lobby of the cancer center.

The performers will present a mini-concert of Christmas carols and songs from the show, which is being performed through Dec. 17 at the Holland Center, for patients, their families, visitors, staff and students.

At 12:30 p.m., the group will then go room to room, visiting with cancer patients who are currently admitted. The cast members hope to lift the patients’ spirits and spread the cancer center’s message of hope for individuals who are fighting cancer this holiday season.

The performance is being presented by the Healing Arts Program.

Today’s performance is the first of several free “Holiday Happenings” being presented by the Healing Arts Programs. Others include:

  • Thursday at noon — Bel Canto Singers from Central High School, with choral director Sara Cowan (daughter of Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center), will give an approximately 20-minute performance of holiday carols.
  • Friday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. — Novak & Haar Jazz Duo, featuring Jennifer Novak Haar on piano and Mark Haar on bass, will perform jazz and holiday favorites. Both performers are cancer survivors. They are volunteering their time and perform for one hour every Friday from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 21, noon — Caroling with Robert Bociek, M.D., and friends.
  • Dec. 22, 12:30-1:30 p.m. — Novak & Haar Jazz Duo.
