At Thursday’s Lincoln Science Cafe, attendees will hear firsthand from a local forensic analyst about some cases she worked and the truth behind one of the most watched TV series.

Mellissa Helligso, a forensic DNA analyst at UNMC, will present “CSI: the Fact behind the Fiction” at the Lincoln Science Cafe. Her presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. at red9, 322 S. 9th St. in Lincoln.

Her discussion was well received by the Omaha Science Cafe crowd who attended her presentation in July.

The Science Cafes are hosted by UNMC, BioNebraska and the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures. They are part of an effort by these groups to increase the population’s science literacy.

A more scientifically literate populace is a goal in UNMC’s strategic plan. The goal of the Science Cafes is to introduce and get young adults interested in science by presenting it in a casual setting.
