College of Public Health adds 10 new faculty members

UNMC’s newest college continues to grow rapidly and move toward accreditation.

In the past few months, 10 faculty members have joined the College of Public Health. They represent a continued commitment to education, public health practice and research.

Members of the UNMC campus recently had an opportunity to meet the college’s new dean, Ayman El-Mohandes, M.B.B.Ch., M.D., M.P.H. and other new faculty at an open house in the dean’s office.

The new faculty members include:

  • Dr. El-Mohandes, dean and professor in the Department of Epidemiology;
  • Christopher Fisher, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Health Promotion, Social and Behavioral Health;
  • Patrik Johansson, M.D., director of the Rural Health Education Network and associate professor in the Department of Health Promotion, Social and Behavioral Health. He also holds a master’s degree in public health;
  • Magda Peck, Sc.D., associate dean for Community Engagement and Public Health Practice and professor in the Department of Health Promotion, Social and Behavioral Health;
  • Shireen Rajaram, Ph.D., director of the Center for Reducing Health Disparities and associate professor in the Department of Health Promotion, Social and Behavioral Health;
  • Risto Rautiainen, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health;
  • Alice Schumaker, Ph.D., director of the Master in Public Health program and associate professor in the Department of Health Services Research and Administration;
  • Ka-Chun (Joseph) Siu, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health
  • Melissa Tibbits, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Health Promotion, Social and Behavioral Health; and
  • Oren Yagil, Ph.D., assistant dean for student affairs and assistant professor in the Department of Health Services Research and Administration.
