‘Unmatched’ inspiration

Fourth-year medical student Kylee Stanley met up with Jon Vanderhoof, M.D., for the first time since he treated her stomach ulcers when she was 2 years old.

Kylee Stanley met with Jon Vanderhoof, M.D., earlier this week when the two reunited for the first time since Dr. Vanderhoof treated the fourth-year medical student for stomach ulcers when she was just 2 years old.

Dr. Vanderhoof — a UNMC professor emeritus and pediatric gastroenterologist — made such an impression on Stanley that she told everyone since pre-school that she wanted to be a doctor.

Today, she will be one of 114 College of Medicine Students who will take part in Match Day, the annual event in which graduating medical students learn where they will do their residencies.

UNMC’s Match Day ceremony kicks off at 11 a.m. in the Sorrell Center’s Truhlsen Campus Events Center.

More about Stanley and Dr. Vanderhoof and about Match Day will be featured in Monday’s UNMC Today.
