Student spotlight – Amanda Meyer

Education is one of the four pillars of UNMC’s mission and our students are the lifeblood of that aspect of campus life.

In UNMC Today’s Student Spotlight, we get to know some of these students, who will become tomorrow’s health care professionals.

What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

My best memory so far from my time at UNMC thus far would have to be serving as a member of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA). ASDA has allowed me to travel and network with dental students across the country. One of the best moments was at this year’s Annual Session in Minneapolis, when the UNMC ASDA chapter was awarded two national awards.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

One that I have most recently witnessed is working together. The transition from the classroom to clinic can be very overwhelming and intimidating, but UNMC does a great job at working together to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and confident. Clinic instructors take extra time to explain procedures. Also, dispensing staff, appointment clerks, cashier staff and patient care coordinators are extremely supportive in helping us figure out how things in clinic work. In addition, upperclassmen are always there to answer a question or give us some helpful tips.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I ran the Lincoln half marathon right before starting dental school and hope to run it again before I graduate.
  • I was born in Spencer, Iowa — home of the world’s largest county fair — and moved to Omaha at six months old.
  • I can flip my eyelids inside out.
