Library director finalists to visit UNMC

Four finalists for the McGoogan Library of Medicine director will visit UNMC between July 23 and Aug. 9.

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dele Davies, M.D., said each of the candidates, which he described as “very talented,” would meet with key stakeholders and also give a public presentation during their visits.

The finalists include:

  • Donna Berryman, Ed.D., assistant director for research and education at Edward G. Miner Library at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, N.Y. Berryman holds a master of library science degree from Dominican University and a doctorate in education from the University of Rochester. She has worked in libraries in Minnesota, Chicago and Massachusetts. Berryman will visit UNMC on July 23 and 24.
  • Stewart Brower, director of the Schusterman Library at Oklahoma University-Tulsa. Brower holds a B.A. in English from Oklahoma State University and a masters in library information systems from the University of Oklahoma. He has worked in libraries at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York; the Bernard Becker Medical Library of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis; and the Robert M. Bird Health Sciences Library at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Brower will visit UNMC on Aug 8 and 9.
  • Emily McElroy, associate university librarian for content management and systems at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). McElroy has a B.S. in history from DePaul University and a master’s in library and information science from Dominican University (Ill.) Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Prior to OHSU, McElroy was head of library acquisitions at New York University, and has held positions at the University of Oregon and Loyola University’s Health Sciences Library. McElroy will visit UNMC on Aug 5 and 6.
  • Ruth A. Riley, director of library services at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Riley has a degree in sociology from the University of Kansas and an M.S. in library and information science from the University of Illinois. Riley has held positions at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, the Alfred Taubman Medical Library of the University of Michigan and the J. Otto Lottes Health Sciences Library of the University of Missouri. Riley will visit UNMC on July 31 to Aug. 1.
