Pamela Bataillon has been named interim human resources director, effective Jan. 6.

Bataillon, who has been at UNMC since 2005, will act as HR director while the university continues the hiring process to replace longtime Assistant Vice Chancellor of Human Resources John Russell. Russell retires today after 14 years in the position.

“Pam’s professionalism, extensive leadership experience and knowledge of the human resources department make her the perfect person to oversee the office while the search for a permanent replacement is ongoing,” said Don Leuenberger, vice chancellor for business and finance.

Bataillon said she is not a candidate for the permanent position.

Bataillon is the assistant vice chancellor of business and finance, budget and financial compliance, and formerly was the assistant dean for administration for the College of Nursing and an associate professor at the college.

Before coming to UNMC, Bataillon’s career included positions as:

  • Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow.
  • Legislative analyst and health policy adviser for U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark.
  • Chief operating officer, Visiting Nurse Association of Omaha and acting CEO of the VNA of Pottawattamie County (Iowa).
  • Health department director, Pottawattamie County.
