Fulbright scholars arrive at UNMC

Six women from Asian and African nations arrived as Fulbright student scholars to begin their master’s studies at UNMC this fall.

They are:

  • Rahmi Aulia, Indonesia, oral biology, Graduate Studies
  • Sabrine Chengane, Algeria, maternal & child health, College of Public Health
  • Itadal Reslane, Lebanon, immunology pathology & infectious disease, Graduate Studies
  • Sarah Mohammad, Iraq, maternal & child health, College of Public Health
  • Marwa Mohamed, Egypt, pharmaceutical sciences, Graduate Studies
  • Josiane Kabayundo, Rwanda, epidemiology, College of Public Health

Faculty, professionals and students at UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha are encouraged to teach, study and conduct research abroad through the Fulbright Scholar Program, a U.S. cultural exchange experience administered by the U.S. Department of State.

Wael ElRayes, M.D., Ph.D., instructor in the UNMC College of Public Health and project manager for the Global Center for Health Security, also is the Fulbright Scholar liaison for UNMC. He announced there are upcoming deadlines for programs of interest to the UNMC community.

Fulbright International Education Administrators Seminar deadlines

The Fulbright International Education Administrators (IEA) Seminars are two weeks in length and are designed specifically for U.S. higher education professionals. These seminars demystify higher education in the destination country and include campus visits with a cross section of universities and colleges; briefings with faculty and administrators, government officials, and leading educational experts; and tours of historical and cultural sites.

Deadlines are:

  • Community College Administrators Seminar (CCAS), Russia Oct. 15
  • Japan — Nov. 1
  • Korea — Nov. 1
  • France — Feb. 1, 2019
  • Germany — Feb. 1, 2019

Grants generally include round-trip airfare, travel within the host country, lodging, and a lump sum supplement for incidentals. Review criteria on the website or email for more details.

The Fulbright Outreach Lecturing Fund is seeking to build relationships and partnerships with institutions that are currently underrepresented within the Fulbright Program as a means to promote future opportunities.

Call for proposals/conference collaboration

The Fulbright Program and IIE, the flagship international educational exchange program, is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and people of other countries. Outreach and recruitment teams attend more than 50 conferences a year. To highlight the impact Fulbright has on campuses throughout the U.S., partners promote the program and assist others in developing a Fulbright culture at their institutions.
