Dr. Sebastian part of webinar releasing report on loneliness

This Thursday, UNMC College of Nursing Dean Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., will be part of a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) free webinar that coincides with the release of a national report titled, “The Health and Medical Dimensions of Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults.”

Dr. Sebastian is a member of the NASEM committee that studied how social isolation and loneliness impact health outcomes in older adults aged 50 and older, particularly among low income, underserved, and vulnerable populations.

She will be joined by Dan Blazer (committee chair), Duke University Medical Center; Colleen Galambos, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; and Julianne Holt-Lunstad, Brigham Young University.

The webinar will address key findings of the report, as well as how health professionals can help reduce the incidence and adverse health impacts of social isolation and loneliness.

The National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine) were founded under the National Academy of Sciences charter in 1964 and 1970, respectively. The three Academies work together to provide independent, objective analysis and advice to the nation and conduct other activities to solve complex problems and inform public policy decisions.

Register now to attend the webinar releasing the new report.
