Celebration of life scheduled Feb. 18 for Jill Thewke

A celebration of life will be held via Zoom on Feb. 18, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. CDT for Jill Thewke.
Thewke, an administrator II in the UNMC College of Nursing, died Jan. 15. She was 58 years old.

Julie Sebastian, PhD, dean of the UNMC College of Nursing, will deliver opening remarks followed by dean’s office staff remarks, a video tribute, and family remarks.

Dr. Jones named to Douglas County Health Department board

Andrea Jones, MD, assistant professor in the UNMC Department of Family Medicine, began serving a three-year term in January on the nine-member board of the Douglas County Health Department.

The board is the official governmental agency bound to enforce laws, ordinances, rules and regulations relating to public health within the City of Omaha, rural Douglas County, and the various incorporated villages within the county.

Part of Dr. Jones’ duties will include overseeing sanitary and health investigations and inspections, overseeing the investigation of any contagious or infectious diseases and adopting measures to arrest the progress, distribute vaccines, drugs, serums and other preparations obtained from the Department of Health or purchased by the County Board for public health purposes. She also will give professional advice and information to city, village and school authorities on all matters pertinent to sanitation and public health.
